to Therapeutic Index

A
few words of explanation in regard to this index seem necessary.

There
is no case in which all the remedies liable to be indicated in any disease are
mentioned; for instance, in scarlatina only twelve are mentioned, while in
Johnson’s Therapeutic Key there are twenty-four, and even this list does not by
any means cover the possible number. So in diphtheria there are eleven by myself
and eighteen by Johnson.

One
of the main objects of this work is to give that knowledge (or the beginning of
it) of the genius of each remedy which will enable us to prescribe for THE
PATIENT, even if pathology has never yet coined a name for his malady. This
is Homoeopathy.

No
remedy ever yet produced a case of scarlatina; but several remedies have
produced a condition and symptoms similar to that found in different cases of
this disease, and are, therefore, homoeopathically curative for it.

When
names of diseases are mentioned it is always to be understood that the name
counts for nothing unless the symptoms are covered with the remedy. If there
were no names there would be no routinism, which so often stands in the place of
good prescribing.
