NEURALGIA.

Q. : When should Aconite be given in neuralgia ?

A. :

When there is
violent congestion of the parts, and they are hot and swollen ; when
brought on by exposure to dry, cold winds ; and where the pains are
tingling and drive the patient to despair ; also with numb sensations.

Pains worse at night.

Q. : What neuralgic symptoms has Allium cepa ?

A. :

Neuralgias
following amputations, and injuries of nerves with fine, shooting,
thread-like pains ; neuralgia of stumps.

What other remedy has neuralgic pains in stumps ?


Ammonium muriaticum.

Q. : What are the symptoms of Arsenicum in facial neuralgia ?

A. :

Pine pains
course through the face like burning needles ; the face is pale and
shrunken.

Malarial neuralgias.

Q. : What are the nervous symptoms of Belladonna ?

A. :

Neuralgic
pains, which come on suddenly and disappear suddenly ; lancinating pains,
aggravated by motion.

Convulsions and spasms in teething children, from repelled eruption,
with red face, hot head, throbbing carotids, starting from sleep in
terror.

Q. : What is the main use of Cedron ?

A. :

Neuralgias,
which return with clock-like periodicity ; supra-orbital neuralgias or
chills of malarial origin, which are regular as a clock.

Q. : When is Cinchona indicated in neuralgia ?

A. :

Periodical
infra-orbital neuralgias of malarial origin, where the slightest draft
makes the patient worse.

Q. : What are the neuralgic symptoms of Mezereum ?

A. :

Neuralgia of
cheek bones with numbness ; neuralgic pains along an eruption as in herpes
zoster ; ciliary neuralgias.

Q. : What are the indications for Spigelia in facial neuralgia ?

A. :

The pains are
severe, sticking and burning, and the parts swell and become very sore.

It occurs more on the side.

Q. : How is it to be distinguished from Colchicum ?

A. :

In Spigelia
there is great
nervous erethism and excitement and intolerance of pain, while in Colchicum
there is a
remarkable tolerance of pain with a general semi-paralytic condition,
instead of nervous excitement.

Q. : Differentiate briefly between Spigelia and Arsenic, Platina,
Chamomilla, Capsicum and Verbascum in facial neuralgia.

A. :

Arsenic :
Fine, red-hot, needle-like pains darting from to place.

Platina

: Steady
compression, with numbness, wants to rub the part.

Chamomilla

:
Great impatience and aggravation by heat.

Capsicum

: Fine
lines of pain ; worse from external pressure.

Verbascum

:
Pains are crushing, as if parts were between tongs, while under Spigelia
the pains are
shooting and piercing and the chief seat is about the eye.

Q. : What are the neuralgic symptoms of Stannum ?

A. :

The guiding
symptom to its use in neuralgia is that the pains increase and decrease
gradually.

Q. : What are the neuralgias and peculiar symptoms about the head found
under Thuja ?

A. :

Sensation as
though a nail were being driven into the vertex or frontal eminences,
intense stabbing pains driving patient almost to distraction ; patient
must lie down.

Q. : What are the neuralgias of Cimicifuga ?

A. :

They are mostly
reflex from ovarian or uterine disease.

Q. : Mention two other drugs useful for neuralgia with burning pains.

A. :

Kalmia and
Kreosotum.

Q. : Give indications for Magnesia.

A. :

The principal
indication calling for this remedy is relief from warm applications.

NEURASTHENIA.

Q. : Give indications for Picricum acidum in neurasthenia.

A. :

Depression and
weariness from slight fatigue, a mental inactivity with indifference and a
desire to lie down and rest ; brain fag ; the grand characteristic is that
the slightest exertion brings on speedy exhaustion, and extinguishes that
quality which we call grit.

Q. : What symptoms call for Phosphoricum acidum ?

A. :

Exhaustion from
over-work ; heaviness in head and limbs ; vertigo, formication in back,
legs weak.

Q. : When is Silicea indicated ?

A. :

Patient dreads
exertion of body or mind ; numbness of toes and back.

Q. : Give symptoms of Zincum.

A. :

Backache, worse
while sitting ; burning in spine ; weak formication in calves.

Q. : When is Phosphorus indicated ?

A. :

Sudden
prostration ; the nervous system seems to have sustained a sudden shock.
