Ferrum.

Mind and Disposition.

Anxiety as after committing a crime.
Changeable disposition, one evening low-spirited and melancholy, the
next excessively cheerful.
Quarrelsome, disputative.

Head.

Vertigo, particularly when descending and on seeing flowing water ;
with sickness at the stomach in walking ; with the sensation as if
the head would constantly incline to the right side.
[5] Congestion of blood to the head,
with pulsation and hammering in the head, heat and redness of the face,
enlarged veins, sensitiveness of the head to the touch ; worse
after midnight and towards morning ; returning periodically.
Pain in the back part of the head when coughing.
Sensitiveness of the head to the touch and falling off of the
hair ; the hair is also painful to the touch.
Pressure on the top of the head when the cold air touches ; it.

Eyes.

Dull, lustreless eyes with blue rings around them.
[10] Inflammation and redness of the
eyes with burning or stinging.
Obscuration of sight in the evening.
Redness and swelling of the upper and lower lids.
Suppurating stye on the upper lid.

Ears.

Stitches in the ear in the morning.
[15] Ulcerative pain of the outer ear.

Nose.

Bleeding from the nose (evening).
The nose is ; continuously filled with clotted blood.

Face.

Earthy, jaundiced color of the face.
Paleness of the face with red spots on the white face.
[20] Pale bloated face, especially
around the eyes.
Fiery redness of the face ; the veins are enlarged.
Pale, dry lips.
Yellow spots in the face.

Mouth and Throat.

Aching, pressing pain in the throat during deglutition, with heat in the
fauces.
[25] Constrictive sensation in the
throat.

Stomach and Abdomen.

Aversion to and bad effects from meat, beer and acids.
Cannot eat or drink any thing hot.
Unquenchable thirst (or thirstlessness). Longing for acids.
Solid food becomes dry and insipid in the mouth during mastication.
[30] Every thing he eats tastes bitter.
Sour eructations.
Bitter eructations after fat food.
Vomiting of the ingesta as soon as he eats.
Vomiting of the food tasting sour in the morning or during the night.

[35] Every thing vomited tastes sour
and is acrid.
Vomiting after eating eggs.
Spasmodic pressure at the stomach after taking the least food or drink,
especially after eating meat.
Hardness and distention of the abdomen.
Spasmodic contraction of the abdominal muscles, as if the abdomen were
constricted, especially when stooping, so that he can only straighten
himself slowly.

[40] Painful weight of the abdominal
viscera in walking, as if they would fall down.
The bowels feel sore as if bruised, when touching them or when coughing.
Flatulent colic at night (violent rumbling in the abdomen).

Stool and Anus.

Watery diarrhœa with burning at the anus.
Diarrhœa ; passes undigested food.
[45] Discharge of blood and mucus at
every stool.
With the slimy stool discharge of ascarides.
Painless diarrhœa (involuntary during a meal).
Contractive spasm in the rectum.
Protrusion of large varices at the anus.

[50] Itching at the anus from ascarides
at night (children).

Urinary Organs.

Involuntary micturition, particularly in the day-time.

Sexual Organs.


Men. Impotence.
Nocturnal emissions.
Discharge of mucus from the urethra.
[55] Women.
Menstruation too early and too profuse.
Suppressed menstruation.
Hæmorrhage from the uterus, with labor-like pains in the abdomen and
glowing heat in the face ; the blood in partly pale, partly
clotted.
Miscarriage.
Painfulness of the vagina during an embrace.

[60] Swellings and indurations in the
vagina.
Prolapsus of the vagina.

Respiratory Organs.

Hot breath.
Oppressed, short breathing.
Fulness and tightness of the chest.
[65] Asthma (after midnight),
compelling one to sit up.
Asthma most violent when lying, or when sitting still without doing any
thing ; relieved by walking and talking.
When sitting still loud breathing, as if asleep.
Roughness of the throat, hoarseness.
Stitches and soreness in the chest.

[70] Sensation of dryness in the chest.
Spasmodic constriction in the chest.
Spasmodic cough from tickling in the trachea, with expectoration only in
the morning of blood-streaked, purulent, albuminous mucus ;
greenish or frothy, tasting sweetish, putrid or sour.
Cough worse in the evening, till midnight.
Spasmodic cough in the morning relieved by eating.

[75] Spasmodic cough after eating and
with vomiting of the ingesta.
In the morning, copious expectoration of purulent matter ; in the
evening, the cough is dry.
Hæmoptysis in the morning and at night.
When coughing, stitches in the chest ; sensation of soreness.

Extremities.


Upper. Paralytic tearing pain from the
shoulder-joint into the upper arm (left) ; he cannot raise the
arm ; slow movement improves it gradually.
[80] Cracking in the shoulder-joint.
Nightly tearing and stinging in the arms.
Numbness and contraction of the fingers.
Swelling of the hands (and feet).
Lower. Nightly tearing and stinging
from the hip-joint to the thigh, gradually improving from slow motion.
[85] Numbness of the thighs.
Painful cramps in the calves, while at rest, especially at night.
Swelling of the feet.
The toes are contracted.

Sleep.

Very sleepy at night, with inability to go to sleep.
[90] Can only lie on her back at night.
Anxious tossing about in bed (after midnight).
Vivid dreams.
The child does not sleep, disturbed by the itching caused by the
ascarides.

Generalities.

Great emaciation.
[95] Weakness of the body almost
paralytic ; she is so weak that she must lie down.
Restlessness in the limbs.
Contraction of the limbs.
Cramps ; in the limbs (during the day).
Cracking in the joints.

Fever.

[100] Pulse full and hard -Violent
ebullitions.
Chilliness in frequent short attacks.
Chill with thirst and red hot face.
Coldness in the evening in bed, frequently continuing all night.
Chilliness and want of animal heat.
[105] Dry heat over the whole body,
especially in the evening, with very red face and inclination to uncover
oneself.
Profuse and long continued perspiration, during the day when moving, and
at night, and in the morning hours in bed.
Clammy and debilitating perspiration.
Every other day perspiration in morning till noon.
Cold perspiration (with convulsions).

[110] The perspiration is immediately
preceded by headache.
Intermittent fevers (consequent upon
the abuse of
Cinchona)
with congestion of blood to the head, distention of the veins, vomiting
of the ingesta, swelling of the spleen.

Skin.

Dirty, earth-colored skin.
Dropsy.

Conditions.

Especially suitable after the abuse of Quinine,
Tea,
and Alcoholic drinks.
[115] Aggravation
towards and in the morning, and while at rest, especially when sitting
still.
Amelioration from slow exercise.
