IGNATIA.
EYE.
►
Objective. ► Sits looking
as though in deep thought; stares in front of him, but is completely
without thought (after two hours), [1].
[This is an unusual condition; alternate action with the subsequent
symptoms, 3, 4, 9, 13, 35, 28. -Hahnemann.] ►
Subjective. ► *Pain extending
from the head into the left eye, when the eyes began to burn and water,
the lids became swollen, and the meibomian glands secreted much mucus, [16a]. ►
Pressure in the right eye from within outward; it seems as though the
eyeball was protruding from the orbit (fifth day), [10a]. ►
Pressure in and above the eyes on waking in the morning (second day), [13]. ►
Painful pressure above the eyes, with pressure in the eyeballs,
especially on looking at the light, [13].

eyebrow, [3]. ► Pain below the orbits and in the cheek
where it has extended from the head (third day), [17]. ► Lids.
► Agglutination of the lids in the
morning, with purulent mucus; on opening the eyes the light is blinding,
[1]. ►
The lids are agglutinated in the morning; there is pressure within the
eye as from sand; on opening the lids; sticking in the eyes (after
thirty-six hours), [1]. ► Weariness as if the eyelids would close, [1]. ►
Sensation as if a particle were in the left external canthus, which
alternately affects the tissues, [3].

upper lid, as if it were too dry, in the evening, [1]. ►

The pupils dilate easily, and just as easily contract, [1]. ► Pupils
are more inclined to dilate than to contract (late action), [1]. ►
Pupils cannot be dilated, [23]. ► Pupils at first contracted, [1]. [165, 166, 167, 169, are alternate

[1]. ►
*Zigzag and serpentine, white flickering at one side of the field of
vision (soon after dinner), (after thirty hours), [1]. ►
A circle of white glittering, flickering zigzags about the point of
vision; therewith the letters to which one directs the eye became
invisible, but those next to them were distinct (after sixteen hours), [1]. [175, 176, are two alternate
effects, which approximate very nearly to Hertz’s so-called false
vertigo. -Hahnemann.) ► On reading,
the letters to which the eyes were directed became invisible, but those
in the immediate vicinity seemed more distinct than ever; it seemed as
if the middle of the word was marked with chalk, while the beginning and
end of a long word, or the first and last letters of a monosyllabic
word, had become more distinct, lasting about an hour, [29].

and bleeding, [1]. ► One corner of the lips becomes ulcerated
(after two hours), [1]. ► The inner surface of the lower lip is
ulcerated (without pain), [1]. ► An enlarged gland on the inner surface of
the lower lip; with sore pain, [1].

kind of hunger and thirst, [1]. ► Speech. ►
Avoids opening the mouth and talking; taciturn (after one to four

Pressure in the throat, [1]. ► Sticking low down in the throat when
swallowing; it disappears on continuing to
swallow and returns when not swallowing, [1]. ► *Sticking
in the throat when not swallowing; when swallowing it seems as though
one swallowed over a bone, causing a cracking (after three
hours), [1]. [If there is an
alternate action of Ignatia in which there is a sore throat, with
sticking on swallowing (I have never met with it in my experience), it
must be extremely rare, and hence of little value as an indication. I
have never been able to cure with Ignatia a sore throat in which
sticking occurred only during the act of swallowing, even though the
other symptoms seemed to be similar to those of Ignatia; when, however,
the stitches in the throat are only felt when not swallowing, a cure
follows with Ignatia, the more certain, speedy, and lasting, the more
the other symptoms of the patient can be covered by those of Ignatia.
-Hahnemann.] ► *Sensation as though a
plug were sticking in the throat, noticed when not swallowing,
[1]. ►
Needlelike stitches low down in the throat in quick succession, when not

noticed when swallowing, [1]. ► *Sore throat; stitches which are not felt while
swallowing, [1]. ► Sore throat, like a lump in the throat,
which is painfully sore when swallowing (after sixteen hours), [1]. [The Ignatia-angina, with internal
swelling of the throat like a lump when not swallowing, causes for the
most part a sore pain in this lump only when swallowing, so the sore
throat that will be cured by Ignatia must be characterized (with
correspondence of the other symptoms), by these same conditions, when it
will be speedily and certainly cured. -Hahnemann.] ►► *Sore throat; sticking in it when not
swallowing, and even somewhat while swallowing; the more he swallows
however the more it disappears; if he swallows anything solid, like
bread, it seems as though the sticking entirely disappeared, [1]. ►
Sore throat; tearing pain in the larynx, much aggravated by swallowing,
breathing, and coughing (after one hour and a half), [1]. ► Tonsils.

could not go down into the stomach, [1].

twenty-four hours), [1]. ► Aversion to fruit; it does not agree with
him (after three hours), [1]. ► Aversion to milk (previously his favorite
drink); while drinking it goes against him, though it has a perfectly
natural and not at all nauseous taste, [1].

comes a sudden aversion to the remainder, without, however, any nauseous
taste and without real nausea, [1].
► Aversion to acids (during the first
hours), [1]. ► *Aversion to tobacco-smoking, as
though he had been satisfied therewith, and had already smoked enough, [1]. ►

far up as the pharynx), (after forty-eight hours), [1]. ► Eructations
of food into the mouth, [1].
[Herewith is associated a symptom which has not been incorporated into
