Role of a single remedy
in Homoeopathy.
Dr. Kumar

Sir, before saying something in
regards with my experiences in long-termed practice, first, I would like
to apologize my seniors and those who have attained much experience in
their practice with the hope that they won’t take me otherwise. My
intention is not to teach someone, but it is just to tell sincerely
regarding my bitter experiences those I have acquired after a long
struggle in this field. I have mostly noticed a thing that a
well-selected remedy having based upon symptomatic study of the case,
works well to a definite period and afterwards, stops working. The
practitioner thinking that the remedy needs to be changed tries to do
so. It is, of course, not a good practice. If a practitioner won’t
have the patience, how it can be expected from the sufferer.

Actually, most of the practitioners
are still not aware of this fact that every remedy has its own term to
show its efficiency and action on the human body. Some remedies take
about a month or more than it to show their action, while others may
produce miraculous results within a day or two. Actually, the remedies
are divided into two groups. First group that belongs to deep acting
remedies and the second is those of the fast acting remedies. For
example, Graphites, Arsenic, Silicea, Lyco, etc. belong to the group of
deep acting remedies, which exist in human body to a long time having
their action deep but steadily. On the other hand, the fast acting
remedies give their result then and there i.e. within a week even within
a day or two, such as Acon, Nux Vom, Bell, Coffea cruda, Arnica, Camphur
etc.

I have seen a miraculous result of
Lycopodium, a deep acting remedy. Whenever, I remind a chronic case of
stomach disorder that needed only three doses of Lycopodium 1M to cure
forever. I myself, too, couldn’t understand by now, how the patient
got rid of that obstinate disease, which he had been suffering from, for
more than ten years. I would like to narrate here in brief about a
chronic case of a patient, who was brought to me almost three years ago.
He was very lean and thin, married having two children, aged 34,
suffering from stomach disorder strongly accompanied by constipation,
liver-derangement, peritonitis, pylorus affection of, water brash,
rheumatism and so many other troubles like that.

I watched him very attentively getting
down into the symptomatic study of patient and soon selected a suitable
remedy for him that was Lycopodium. As soon as, I ordered my assistant
to pick that remedy up the patient shouted, “Sir, are you going to
give me Lycopodium?” I replied in affirmative. Then he told me that
the very remedy a homoeopath has given several times to him. “How
many doses did he give you in a month?” I asked him. In the reply
he said, “I can’t say accurately, but it is sure, whenever I told
him about the satisfactory results of this remedy he used to repeat a
heavy dose of it.” I asked what he meant by heavy dose. The patient
explained it as in excess quantity of the remedy i.e. almost 6 to7 drops
of it.

“Did he give you this remedy
singly or followed by other medicines?” He answered confirmedly
that the homoeopath had never given that remedy alone, but that had been
followed by some other medicines to be taken three or four times a day.
The case was very clear. He was under adverse effect of Lycopodium that
made him worse and incurable. The night was growing dark. Giving a dose
of Nux vom 30 I suggested him to come tomorrow-early morning without
taking anything else even the paste and brush was not allowed.

Next day he came at 5 a.m. I gave a
single drop of Lycopodium 1M on his tongue and called him just after a
month. In this duration, no medicine was allowed. I warned him if he
wanted to be cured perfectly, he had to keep patience otherwise, he wont
get himself cured. When he met me on the prescribed date he looked very
much happy. He requested me to tell the name of that remedy which had
been given to him last month. However, I overlooked his request turning
his attention elsewhere. This time too, Lycopodium 1M was repeated and I
advised him to come just after a long term of two months. Thus, the
third dose of Lycopodium 1M made him completely cured.

I am the only witness of this
complicated case how that had been solved only by three doses of
Lycopodium. It is the only case in my practice-life that still compels
me not to believe upon its curability. Although, I have got many a
surprising result of Lyco and other deep acting remedies, but all of
them needed much time to cure.

Generally, the practitioners do
administer the remedy of deep acting group to the patients but they don’t
wait for the result to a definite time. They either change the remedy or
repeat the very remedy more frequently. Thus, they make the case
complicated and almost incurable. Second thing, the practitioner should
depend upon a single remedy. Two or more remedies leave no better result
on the human body than a single one. Therefore, as far as possible an
experienced and wise homoeopath neither uses more than one remedy at a
time nor repeats it frequently.

In my opinion, a disease should be
diagnosed being based on symptomatic study of the patient that should be
strongly tallied with the characteristics of the remedy. I have,
successfully, cured some of the chronic and obstinate diseases only
depending upon the principle of similimum that was, at first, introduced
by St. Christian Frederick Samuel Hahnemann, the father of Homoeopathy.
As far as the question concerns with a single remedy, I am sure that a
single remedy always yields better results to the patient.

I have to pass, many a time, through
some critical and grave circumstances in dealing with the complicated
cases, where two or more remedies appeared to have a great resemblance
in their characteristics and some times, it becomes very difficult to
select any of those remedies. In such cases, I have, always, paid entire
my attention to the mental state of the sufferer and thus achieved a
great success in rooting an obstinate and complicated disease out.

In fact, I never remained failure
while using a single remedy. In my views, a single, but well selected
remedy is proved, ‘Kamdhenu’, a Pious Cow having supernatural powers
(mostly characterized in mythological stories of Hindu religion), after
getting that one will get every thing he needs. Nothing will remain to
achieve, in contrary, every thing will look fade and worthless beside
this Kamdhenu, a well-selected single remedy.

In the last, before I stop to pen
would be better to say just one thing to the neophytes that if they come
across the genuine and wide spread literature of homoeopathy, they will
find it as an ocean that is full of precious gems and they are unable to
decide what to choose and what to avoid.

‘Practice makes a man perfect’ is
true, but to read different writer’s views, to know about their
instructions and guidance, above all, to have the basic knowledge of the
concerning therapy is must. If one doesn’t follow the fundamental
principles of a particular therapy, in which he is practicing can’t be a
good practitioner, except that he may prove a hanging sword to the
patients.
