Dr.James Tyler Kent, Professor of
Materia Medica in Hahnemann Medical College, Chicago is undoubtedly one of the
greatest homeopath to be born. It was Kent who was the strongest advocate of
Hahnemann’s theories and his theories and practice in homeopathy led him to be a
true Hahnemannian with strong belief in the single remedy and the law.
Kent, who was an allopathic doctor
was converted to homeopathy, after his wife who was suffering from illness was
miraculously cured by a homeopath. Kent studies, teachings and practice makes
him one of the greatest homeopath.
Apart from his teachings and
practice, Kent undoubtedly is the greatest writer of homeopathic books. His
three books on the organon, materia medica and the repertory are undoubtedly
masterpieces.
Lectures on Homeopathic
philosophy is Kent’s commentary on the Organon. Truly anyone who
masters the essence of this book can said to have understood and learnt
homeopathy.
Lectures on Materia Medica is
a collection of lectures given by Dr.Kent at the post-graduate school of
homeopathy. The lectures draw a clear,vivid and graphic picture of each drug
fixing it in the mind of the reader.
Kent’s Repertory is
undoubtedly the masterpiece. More than 1500 pages of symptoms and remedies,
compiled painstakingly – this book is a must for every practitioner of
homeopathy.
It is indeed a must that anyone who
wants to learn homeopathy has to understand these three books.
One who masters the first two
(philosophy and materia medica) and understands how to use the third (repertory)
can said to have mastered homeopathy.
Can it be said then that “For
the religion called homeopathy, there is no God but Hahnemann and Kent is his
prophet”.
