Phosphorus.
Mind and Disposition.
Great excitability ; becomes easily vexed and angry, which makes
him exceedingly vehement, from which he suffers afterwards.
Great anxiety and restlessness, especially when alone, or during a
thunder-storm.
Zoomagnetic condition ; clairvoyance.
Ecstasy.
[5] Melancholy depression, sometimes
with shedding of tears or with attacks of involuntary laughter.
Head.
Vertigo when rising from the bed in the morning ; when rising from
a seat, with fainting and falling to the floor ; worse in the
morning and after meals.
Stupefying headache in the morning when moving, and worse on
stooping ; ceasing for a short time after eating ; better when
lying, down and in the cold air.
Congestion to the head, with burning, singing and pulsations in the
head, red face, puffiness under the eyes ; worse in the morning
when sitting, and in the evening in bed.
Burning in the forehead, with pulsations in the morning and in, the
afternoon ; after eating worse in the warm room, better when
walking in the open air.
[10] Sensation of emptiness in the
head, with vertigo.
Sensation of coldness in the cerebellum, with sensation of stiffness of
the brain.
Pulsation in the head, with singing and burning in it, mostly in the
forehead, with nausea and vomiting from morning till noon ; worse
from music, while masticating and in the warm room.
Inflammation of the brain, with pulsations and singing in the
head ; the heat enters the head from the spine, and from it extends
to the feet ; worse in the warm room, better when moving about in
the cold air.
Headache over the left eye.
[15] Tension in the skin of the
forehead and in the face, as if the skin was not large enough,
frequently only on one side ; worse from change of temperature and
while eating ; better after eating, with anxiety.
Itching on the scalp, worse from scratching, with dandruff.
Dry, painful heat of the scalp, compelling one to uncover the head, the
temperature of the body not increased ; better when lying down.
Clammy perspiration on the head only, and in the palms of the hands,
with discharge of much turbid urine.
Falling off of the hair in large bundles on the forepart of the head,
and on the sides above the ears.
[20] The headache is aggravated from
music, laughing, and in the warm room.
Eyes.
Burning in the eyes, with profuse lachrymation in the wind.
Agglutination in the eyes in the morning, with lachrymation in the open
air ; worse in the wind.
Inflammation of the eyes, with pressing and burning pains.
Pain in the bones of the orbit of the eye.
[25] Aversion to light.
Pupils contracted.
Mistiness of sight ; dim-sightedness (gauze before the eyes).
Halo around the candle.
Black motes floating before the eyes (muscæ volitantes).
[30] Momentary loss of sight, as from
fainting.
Cataracta viridis.
Ears.
Roaring before the ears.
Hardness of hearing, especially of the human voice.
Nose.
Bleeding from the nose, during stool ; blowing of blood from the
nose.
[35] Swelling and redness of the nose.
Painful dryness of the nose.
Bad smell from the nose ; foul smell.
Over-sensitiveness of smell.
Polypus of the nose (bleeding easily).
[40] Profuse discharge of green (or
yellow) mucus from the nose, without coryza.
Freckles on the nose.
Face.
Pale, hippocratic countenance.
The color of the face is very changeable.
Bloated face ; puffiness under the eyes ; eyes sunken, a blue
ring under them.
[45] Circumscribed red spot on the
cheeks.
Tearing and stinging in the facial bones.
Ulcerated corners of the mouth.
Bluish lips.
Mouth and Throat.
Pricking-stinging in the teeth ; worse in the open air, and from
warm food.
[50] Necrosis of the (left) lower
jaw ; swelling of the jaw bones.
Swelled and easily bleeding gums ; inflamed gums, with ulcers on
them.
Toothache after washing clothes.
Tongue dry, white, coated with white mucus.
Stinging in the tip of the tongue.
[55] Burning in the œsophagus.
Dryness of the throat day and night.
Spasmodic constriction of the œsophagus.
Tonsils and uvula are much swollen.
Saliva increased, saltish, sweetish ; soreness of the mouth.
[60] Spitting of blood.
Hawking of mucus in the morning.
Stomach and Abdomen.
Want of appetite, caused by a fulness in the throat.
Hunger soon alter eating.
Immoderate hunger, especially at night (during an attack of gout), with
great weakness, so great that he faints if the hunger is not soon
allayed.
[65] Thirst, with longing for something
refreshing.
Taste saltish, sour, sweetish ; bitter after eating.
After eating sleepiness.
Frequent empty and sour eructations.
Rising up of sour ingesta.
[70] Throwing up of the ingesta by
mouthfuls.
Vomiting of bile ; of what has been drunk as soon as it becomes
warm in the stomach ; of blood ; sour.
Painfulness of the stomach to the touch and when walking.
Load rumbling and rolling in the intestines.
Great pressure in the stomach after eating.
[75] Burning in the stomach ;
inflammation of the stomach.
Spasms of the stomach.
The cardiac opening of the stomach seems contracted (too narrow), the
food scarcely swallowed comes up again.
The pains in the stomach are relieved by cold food (ice-cream, ice).
Soreness of the abdomen to the touch when walking.
[80] Sensation of coldness in the
abdomen.
Flaccidity of the abdomen.
Large yellow spots on the abdomen.
Stool and Anus.
Constipation ; the small-shaped, hard stool is expelled with great
difficulty.
Stools very soft, pap-like.
[85] Painless, debilitating diarrhœa
(worse in the morning).
Stools black or green ; watery, with flakes of mucus ;
bloody ; involuntary ; indigested.
Discharge of blood from the rectum, also during stool.
Spasms in the rectum.
Paralysis of the lower intestines ; of the sphincter ani.
[90] Discharge of mucus out of the wide
open anus.
Stinging or itching at the anus.
Hæmorrhoidal tumors easily bleeding.
Urinary Organs.
Increased secretion of watery, pale urine.
Frequent micturition, but a small quantity each time.
[95] Hæmaturia.
Urine whitish, like curdled milk, soon becoming turbid with brick-dust
sediment, with a variegated cuticle on the surface.
Twitching and burning in the urethra, with frequent desire to urinate.
Involuntary discharge of urine.
Sexual Organs.
Men. Sexual desire increased, with
irresistible desire coition.
[100] Impotence.
Frequent involuntary seminal emissions.
Women. Menstruation too early and too
profuse, and of too long duration, or too early and too scanty (and
watery).
Stitches upward in the vagina into the pelvis.
During menstruation pains in the small of the back ; palpitation of
the heart.
[105] Sterility on account of excessive
voluptuousness, or if the menstruation comes on too late and is too
profuse.
Leucorrhœa acrid, drawing blisters and excoriating.
Inflammation (erysipelatous), even after the formation of pus.
Ulceration of the mammæ, with hardness ; bluish color ;
fistulous openings, with burning and stinging.
Respiratory Organs.
Hoarseness ; loss of voice.
[110] Great painfulness of the larynx,
preventing talking.
Stitches, soreness, roughness and dryness in the larynx.
Croup ; bronchitis.
Cough, with stitches over one eye ; splitting headache ;
dryness and burning in the throat, hoarseness, aphonia, soreness,
roughness and dryness in the larynx.
Cough, dry, from tickling in the throat and chest ; from cold
air ; from reading aloud or from talking ; from laughing, from
eating and drinking ; from a change in the weather, and from strong
odors ; from lying on the left side or on the back.
[115] Cough, with expectoration in the
morning, without expectoration in the evening ; expectoration
bloody, frothy, pale-red, rust-colored, streaked with blood, purulent,
white and tough ; cold mucus, tasting sour, salt or sweet.
Hollow, hacking, spasmodic tickling cough, especially if caused by
tickling in the chest.
Cough worse in the evening and at night.
Respiration oppressed, quick, anxious.
Difficult inspiration ; heaviness, fulness and tension on the
chest.
[120] Congestions to the chest ;
anxiety in the chest.
Constrictive spasms in the chest.
Inflammation of the lungs (left side), with stitches in the sides of the
chest.
Pneumonia nervosa (lungs hepatized).
Tuberculosis (phthisis mucosa).
[125] Palpitation of the heart from
every mental emotion.
Yellow spots on the chest.
Back and neck.
Pain in the back as if it were broken, impeding all motion.
Stiffness of the neck.
Stitches in the shoulder-blades.
[130] Pain in the small of the back
when rising from a stooping position.
Burning in the back or small of the back.
Tabes dorsalis.
Extremities.
Trembling of the limbs from every exertion.
Upper. Rheumatic pains in the arm,
especially in the joints.
Trembling of the hands, if holding any thing.
[135] Burning in the palms of the
hands ; clammy perspiration in the palms of the hands (and on the
head).
Numbness and insensibility of the fingers.
Lower. Rheumatic stiffness of the knee.
Rheumatic pain extending from the knee to the feet.
Swelling of the feet, with stinging.
[140] Pains in the soles of the feet,
as if bruised.
Nightly tearing pain in the feet of pregnant women.
Swelling of the tibia.
Numbness of the toes.
Corns and chilblains on the toes.
Generalities.
[145] Great emaciation.
Great nervous debility ; trembling in all the limbs from the least
exertion.
Over-sensitiveness of all the senses.
Burning in the body and limbs internally and externally.
Sensation of dryness or of festering in internal parts.
[150] Increased secretion of mucus.
Hæmorrhages from internal organs.
Inflammation and stinging pain of inner parts.
Ebullitions and congestions.
Itching of inner arts.
[155] Sprains, easy dislocations sleep.
Generalities.
Sleepiness in day-time.
Sleeplessness before midnight ; goes to sleep late.
Wakes frequently in the night.
Sleepiness with drowsiness (coma vigil).
[160] Anxious, vivid dreams.
Frequent waking from feeling too hot without perspiration.
Somnambulism.
Fever.
Pulse generally accelerated, full and hard ; occasionally small and
weak.
Chill, generally only in the evening, without thirst, with aversion to
being uncovered and with swollen veins on the hands.
[165] Internal chilliness and chill not
relieved by the heat of the stove.
Chilliness and heat alternately during the night.
Chilliness in the evening till midnight, with great weakness, and sleep.
Chill at night with diarrhœa.
Chill running down the back.
[170] Flushes of heat over the whole
body, beginning in the hands.
Heat with anxiety and burning in the hands and face, in the afternoon
and evening.
Heat at night disturbing the sleep.
Heat running up the back.
Heat with desire to sleep.
[175] Perspiration most profuse on the
head, hands and feet, with increased secretion of urine.
Perspiration only on the forepart of the body.
Profuse perspiration after midnight and in the morning-hours, followed
by great debility.
Clammy perspiration.
The perspiration frequently smells of sulphur.
[180] Intermittent
fever. Heat and perspiration at night,
with faintness and ravenous hunger, which could not be satisfied by
eating ; afterwards chilliness, with chattering of teeth and
external coldness ; the chilliness was succeeded by internal heat,
especially in the hands, while the external coldness continued.
Chilliness in the afternoon, followed by heat and thirst with internal
chilliness ; heat and perspiration followed, lasting all night.
Fevers with soporous condition, dry black lips and tongue and open
mouth.
Typhus fever.
Hectic fever.
Skin.
Blood-boils.
Fungus hæmatodes ; small wounds bleed much.
[185] Polypus.
Petechiæ. Red spots.
Dry herpes.
Burning in the skin.
Pustulous and scaly exanthema.
[190] Yellow spots (chest and abdomen).
Freckles (nose).
Swelling of the bones (left lower jaw, tibia).
Glandular diseases especially after contusions.
Chilblains (fingers, toes).
Corns.
Conditions.
[195] Liability to take cold, and from
it stinging and tearing in the limbs.
Sensitiveness to cool weather and to the open air.
The head and face symptoms are relieved by the cold air, but the chest
symptoms are aggravated by it.
Aggravation ; in the evening, at
night, especially before midnight ; after breakfast ; when
alone ; after eating (something warm), when lying on the back or on
the left side ; when rising from a seat ; from light ;
during a thunder storm ; from a change of weather ; from
singing, laughing, strong smells (cough).
Amelioration ; in the dark ;
while lying on the right side ; from rubbing ; after
sleeping ; from eating something cold.
[200] Especially suitable for lean,
slender persons.
In a condition of great debility the person is much easier beneficially
affected by Phosphor.,
being mesmerized before taking the remedy.
Phosphor, is an antidote to over-doses
of Camphor.
