veins over the whole body, [14], [31]. ►

[68], etc. ►
Convulsions lasting five days, [28].
► Convulsions, with frothing from the
mouth, [12]. ►
The whole body was convulsed, [96].
► *The body is frightfully tossed
about by the convulsions, [12]. ► After every drink, sometimes he fell into
convulsions, sometimes he did not recognize the bystanders, [24]. ►
Hands, feet, and muscles of the face were every now and then twitched,
with convulsions; and so strongly did they struggle that is was no easy
task to restrain them, or take away anything they took hold of (after
eight hours), [72]. [970.] ►
On attempting to make the child walk, it was remarkable that she walked
with the body bent backward, as if the head and trunk were acted upon by
an invisible force; at the same time, if she spontaneously attempted to
walk, she did so with the feet wide apart, with involuntary motions of
the hands, with which she felt about her, sometimes closing them as
quick as lightning, and again opening them, [66]. ►
Epilepsy, [38]. [In two boys from
the seeds, one of whom died after a few hours. -Hahnemann. The following
is added by Hughes: No such observation occurs here, but the author
relates how a fomentation of the seeds applied for menstrual headache
caused epileptic symptoms to come on.] ►

*She is rigid all over, as in tetanus

seems as though he would fall, [8].
► Exhaustion, [62]. ► [He is
exhausted, and talks to himself], [20].
(Case 16). ► General exhaustion until
faintness was imminent, with trembling of the whole body and
extraordinary coldness of the surface of the limbs, [41]. ► When
he became quiet, he seemed very much exhausted and snored deeply until
the convulsions recommenced, [96].
► Prostration and heaviness of the
limbs, [59a]. ► Prostration, stupor, and overpowering
sleepiness, [77]. [990.] ►
Prostration amounting to such a degree that it caused an unsteady gait,
as from vertigo, [60]. ► General prostration and discomfort, [59]. ►
The ground seemed to give way under their feet, [95]. ► The
child was unable to stand, and lost all power of holding up the body, [71]. ►
Inability to maintain the erect posture, and reeling when an attempt was
made to stand, [57]. ► The child began to reel and fell to the
ground (soon), [67]. ► The man staggered to the bed, whereon he
fell and remained completely immovable, [93].
► He wants to get away, but cannot stand
alone
; he attempts to walk and falls upon his face; repeats
the effort, and invariably falls upon his face; when raised upon his
feet can hardly stand; limbs seem weak, almost paralyzed; acts as if
intoxicated, [91]. ► She soon fell from her seat and lay
immovable, and slept, with the head sunk upon the chest, the face very
red, deep respiration, warm skin, small rapid pulse, eyes, closed and
much injected, [64]. ► He suddenly falls to the earth, [12], [27].

convulsions
(after a few minutes), [34]. [From fomentations of Hyoscyamus applied to
the head. -Hahnemann.] ► Fell down
unconsciousness, with the whole body cold and stiff like a piece of wood
,
face pale, eyes closed, pupils greatly dilated, conjunctiva injected,

► In bed, at one time he drew the
knees up, at another stretched them out, at another turned over, turned
the head back and forth, at another raised the head and beat the bed
with it, at another picked the straws from his mattress, groped about
himself and did not speak; he was neither peevish nor out of humor
(after three hours and a half), [1].
► Tosses about the bed and screams
incessantly, [94]. ► He was throwing himself about in bed,
incessantly screaming, and constantly rubbing his hot head with both
hands (after several hours), [86].

SKIN.

►
Objective.
► Red skin
(after three hours), [88]. ► Skin of a bright red hue, resembling
scarlatina, [87]. ► The skin of the whole body is as if
inflamed and of a reddish cinnabar color (soon after the simple heat), [26]. [Original revised by Hughes.] ► Skin rattling like parchment, [60]. ►
Eruptions, Dry.
► Bright
scarlet redness of the whole surface, exactly resembling that of
scarlatina; it was not mere flushing of the surface produced by unusual
exertion, but well-defined papillary eruption, disappearing on firm
pressure, returning immediately when the pressure is removed; the
eruption began to fade away in about twelve hours; on the fourth day,
numerous vesicles appeared on various parts of the body, resembling
those of varicella; after remaining out about two days they dried up,
leaving scales, which peeled off along with portions of the surrounding
cuticle; the thick epidermis of the hands and feet, however, showed no
signs of desquamation; the mucous membrane partook to some extent of the
same appearance as in scarlatina, though the strawberry tongue was not,
of course, so well marked, [89]. [1040.] ►
The body all over had a purplish rash, more particularly about the neck
and face; the face was “so swollen that she thought it would
burst,” scarlet, the color more marked on the left cheek, on which
it persistently remained for four days, the rash gradually disappearing
from other parts of the body, on the second day (after four hours), [90]. ►
Felt his lips swell (soon after first dose); his nose swelled very much
(ten minutes after third dose), which swelling extended all over his
face and body, growing less severe about his waist; this was accompanied
by a prickly sensation and itching; the skin of the face was very red,
shining, and hard; the eyes were shut; there was no interval seen until
below the middle of the body, where bunches and irregular patches
appeared scattered over the surface, and some smaller ones appeared like
enlarged papillæ of the skin; he could hardly utter a word; owing to a
“stiffness of the tongue and lips,” as he expressed it; what
he did say was in a thick blundering manner, like that of a drunken man;
his mind appeared perfectly clear; the eruption began to subside in
about an hour and a half from the time that the last dose was taken, and
had almost or quite disappeared the next morning, [85]. ► Brown
spots made their appearance alternately over the whole body and then
disappeared, [20]. (Case 14). ► Erysipelatous spots and blisters break
out, mostly on the lower limbs (after twenty-four hours), [9]. ► A few
pimples on the elbow, externally, with sore painfulness when touched

the hip to the knee, looking like confluent pocks; they contain no
moisture and desquamate after four days (after third day), [14]. [On seat of dartres thought to
have been cured by Mercury. -Hughes.] ►
Thick pustules full of yellow matter break out on the cheeks and chin,
after which the nose becomes ulcerated, [20].
(Case 16). ► Pocklike pustules on the
right side of the chin, [1a]. [1050.] ►

thick leather, which at last seemed to be quite benumbed (after two
hours), [81]. ► Bruised pain in an ulcer, on moving the
part (after twenty-four hours), [1].

SUPPLEMENT: HYOSCYAMUS.

Authority.

97,
Dr. Robert Clark, Montreal Med. Chronicle (Ranking’s Abstract, 1858 (2),
p. 159), a child, aged two years and a half, ate some seeds.

►

There was flushed and excited
countenance, the restless and violent tossing, amounting almost to
convulsions, the momentary listening to imaginary sounds, and the eager
clutching at visionary phantoms; the brilliant eye, widely dilated
pupil, hurried pulse, and labored respiration. There was a bright
scarlet redness of the whole surface, exactly resembling that of
scarlatina. It was not a mere flushing of the surface, but a
well-defined papillary eruption, disappearing on firm pressure, but
returning immediately when the pressure was removed. The mucous membrane
partook to some extent of the same appearance as in scarlatina, [97].
