Strokes
occur when part of the brain’s blood supply is cut off. This can be caused
by a local haemorrhage or a blood clot in one of the arteries supplying
the brain.
Stroke
symptoms include inability to speak, severe headache, confusion, and a
pounding pulse. There may be weakness and numbness on one side of the body
and unequal dilation of the pupils. In a major stroke, the casual quickly
becomes unconscious.
Check
breathing and heartbeat and if necessary give artificial respiration
(select Breathing) and
cardiac resuscitation (select Circulation). If
the person is unconscious, place him or her in the recovery position
(select Unconsciousness).
If the person remains conscious, prop him or her up in a half-sitting
position and give as much comfort and reassurance as you can. Dial 999.
Specific
remedies to be given every 5-10 minutes for up to 10 doses
Person very fearful
Aconite 30c
Person has
collapsed, face dark and flushed, loud ‘snoring’ breathing, cheeks puff
out as person exhales Opium 30c
Once the person’s
condition is stable, give Arnica 6c every 4 hours for up to 3 days.
